“...the 1971 japan tour was a rare and special moment in time. five shows in five days, with led zeppelin playing at what many fans consider their peak. just having a show in tokyo back then was almost unimaginable for a uk band that wasnt even getting as much traction on the homefront. to have five stops across japan because they were that beloved by japanese music lovers was something few bands achieved during that era. what makes this tour stand out to me is that it was their first ever trip to japan, and there was a real cultural exchange happening. the band fully immersed themselves in the atmosphere, as seen in rare home video footage capturing their time there. sonically, the tour was adventurous with medleys stretched out to nearly 30 minutes, showing a deep level of improvisation and experimentation. if i had to sum it up in one sentence: they played it how they felt it...”
